Hachimantai Aspite Line

Beautiful scenery and dynamic driveway

This 27 km long drive route traverses the Hachimantai Mountains and connects Iwate and Akita.

It winds through the mountainside of Chausu-dake (Mt. Chausu), and offers the unique scenery of Hachimantai, a magnificent volcanic belt, including Mt. Iwate, blue lakes and marshes, and the unique landscape of dead ash trees.

Especially just after the opening of the road in mid-April, several meters of snow still remain on both sides of the road, creating a “snow corridor” that attracts visitors.

A dynamic road where you can fully enjoy the thrill of driving

Enjoy the adventurous winding road
The Hachimantai Aspite Line is a driving course that traverses Hachimantai from Iwate Prefecture to Akita Prefecture.

As you enter the mountainous region, you will be enveloped by a unique atmosphere created by the blue-green Abies sachalinensis trees, with a series of gentle curves.

The drive through the sea of trees and virgin forests is a pleasant experience with spectacular views from the car windows.

The crater ruins are dotted with swamps of various sizes, allowing visitors to enjoy the changes in the pristine natural landscape.

The area is also known for its autumn foliage, especially from early October, and the snow corridor is a highlight just after it opens in early spring.

Although closed in winter, the Aspite Line opens in mid-April and the Hachimantai Jukai Line in late April.

Enjoy the spectacular view from the summit of Hachimantai

From the observation deck at the Hachimantai summit parking lot, you can see Mount Iwate, Mount Moriyoshi, and other surrounding mountains.

The observation deck is located at the rear of the parking lot and offers a panoramic view of the landscape.

The road leading to Matsukawa Onsen Hot Springs via the Hachimantai Jukai Line and the road leading to Yakiori Lava Flow on the Mt. Iwate Panorama Line are also attractive.

Enjoy driving and hot springs on the Jukai Line!

Along the Hachimantai Jukai Line is the hidden hot spring of Toshichi Onsen, 1,400 meters above sea level.

The Hachimantai Aspite Line is named after the name “Aspite,” meaning shield volcano.
