This historical park was built on the site of Morioka Castle, the residence of the feudal lord of the Nanbu domain, which was completed in 1633.
Morioka Castle was a flat castle that utilized the confluence of the Kitakami River flowing in the west and the Nakatsu River flowing in the southeast as a natural shelter (hori), and spread out on a granite hillside.
Today, stone walls, ponds, and other remains remain. Selected as one of the 100 best castles in Japan, one of the 100 best city parks in Japan, and one of the best historical parks in Japan, the beautiful scenery and historical value of the castle attracts visitors.
In the park, there are monuments to the lords of Morioka Castle and writers associated with the castle, and visitors can feel the footsteps of great men such as Inazo Nitobe, Takuboku Ishikawa, and Kenji Miyazawa.
The park has a vast lawn area, ideal for picnics and relaxation.
In spring, approximately 200 cherry trees are in full bloom and a cherry blossom festival is held. The cherry blossoms add elegant colors to the stone walls of the castle ruins, delighting visitors.
In winter, the Morioka Snow Light Festival can be enjoyed, and various events are held throughout the year, such as the Environmental Greenery Festival and the Music Festival.
Morioka Castle Ruins Park is a charming spot where history and nature are in harmony. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery while walking in the footsteps of history.
