The cave is a limestone cave made of marble that was formed over hundreds of millions of years, with a total length of over 3,635 meters.
The vermilion drum bridge “Fu Koi Bridge” crosses the upper reaches of the Kesen River, which flows in front of the entrance of Taki Kankan-do, and visitors crossing the bridge will be overwhelmed by the mysterious natural formations that lie beneath the ground.
The inside of the cave has a fantastic atmosphere, and the lighting enhances the beauty of the waterfalls and stalactites.
After 880 meters underground from the entrance, a mysterious cave dome is formed, a magnificent space with a circumference of 50 meters and a height of 60 meters, where the cave waterfall is revealed.
The water cascades down from the marble cracks in the ceiling, creating a 29-meter waterfall with a beautiful spray.
The powerful sound of the waterfall’s gurgling sound led the female poet Yanagihara Hakuren, who was active from the Taisho to Showa periods, to name it “Amano-Iwato Falls.
Further inward, beautiful scenery can be seen at Sumida Falls, Shigeyoshi Falls, and MUGEN no Izumi (Infinity Spring).
In the vicinity of Taki Kan-do, there is the Taki Kan-do Tourist Center, where visitors can enjoy the famous “Taki Nagashi Soba” (buckwheat noodles) made with cold water. These soba noodles flow from a bamboo tube and are full of wild flavor. Try this special buckwheat noodle served near a waterfall.
